Christian Meditation

Meditation is a universal wisdom found in all the great religions. At Hou Mana Wai Mercy Wellsprings we practice the tradition as taught by John Main OSB. See more about the sessions below.
It helps all people to find a simple, practical and meaningful way to awaken and deepen their spiritual life.

The teachings of John Main, a Benedictine monk, on the use of the mantra in the Christian tradition are widely disseminated through the World Community for Christian Meditation (WCCM). He wrote:

“Although meditation is a solitary practice, it reveals solitude as the recognition and acceptance of each person’s eternal uniqueness and
the eternal and unique value we share with every creature in the cosmos.”

What does a session look like?

There is a 10 minute talk, followed by 25 minutes of silent meditation. Newcomers are welcome and previous experience is not necessary.

"Hou Mana Wai Mercy Wellsprings is a welcoming and calm centre, well held and organised by Srs Cathryn and Rita. You can sense the many hours of community and spirit shared as soon as you you enter the building, and sit in the space. The comfortable buildings are surrounded by gardens, outdoor spaces, and well-planted older treed grounds out front. A lovely, simple venue with all that a group needs to refresh, replenish and learn together onsite."

"The opening ritual of Hou Mana Wai Mercy Wellsprings in 2022 was a joy to attend. The presence of God’s spirit of life, love and joy was palpable... the spirit permeates this place - an oasis of peace and restoration, a source of new life for those who breathe its air and absorb the prayerfulness that permeates the gardens and walls of the buildings … a precious gift for the people of Tamaki Makaurau and beyond."
